Environmentally-Friendly Needle Disposal Project
In Arkansas alone, nearly 500,000 needles, syringes,
and lancets—sharps—are disposed of in an eco-destructive
way per day.
Annually, this totals more than 182 million used sharps
that are disposed of improperly.
Why You Should Care:
This destructive behavior not only poses a hazard to the
environment, but also to wildlife, sanitation workers, and
others who may come in contact with serious health conditions—some
of which include HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C.
Nearly 21 million cases of Hep B, 2 million cases of Hep
C, and 260,000 cases of HIV each year are due to improper
management of sharps.
